Fungus and your lawn

With the wet winter season coming to Kona fast, its time to talk about the grey spot in your lawn. That spot in your green lawn that looks dead, its typically fairly round, and despite the amount of rain and fertilizer you've applied, it won't go away. These are common signs that your landscaping may have a fungal infection. Grass fungus thrive during seasons where it stays moist all day long. Winter in Kailua Kona is the ideal condition for this, providing consistent rains paired with cooler shorter days.

Lawn fungus isn't the end to you lawn, but it does require attention. The first step in your lawn care program will be to adjust your watering schedule. If it's consistently raining turn your watering down to a bare minimum. If the rains aren't providing adequate water, change your irrigation timing to allow for longer periods between heavier application. Allow the ground to become slightly dry between watering. 

Your lawn will need step two if the patch in your lawn is excessively large, growing, or you're unable to dry the soil out. This lawn care step involves the application of a fungicide. This can be granules or a spray application. Follow the instructions on the label and you'll have your lush green lawn back in no time.
